There is a large variety of duvet. Two criteria are to be taken into account:
you and
the duvet. Actually, everyone is unique, and a perfect appropriateness between the person and the duvet is very important for a good night sleep. First of all, let's have a look at the important criteria for a good night sleep:
- The movements
- The duvet weight
- The duvet height
- Thread count
The movements
One of the important point when choosing a duvet is to know if you are moving a lot or not during your sleep. If you are moving a lot, two possibilities are available to you. There is the heavy duvets (but you have to like having the weight on you), or an extremely large duvet, that could be a down blanket. The down blanket can be offered in large sizes thus allows you to tuck it in like a blanket while keeping the advantages of a duvet
The duvet weight
There are two main categories of people :
Some people need to feel a weight in order to have a good night sleep. It is recommended that they but a duvet with a higher percentage of feathers, for example, 20% down and 80% feathers.
On the contrary, other people, prefer sleeping with less weight on them, they should choose a duvet with a percentage of down superior to the one of feathers. However, down being more expensive than feathers, 100%down duvets are a bit less affordable.
The duvet height
There again, two criteria are to be taken into account. If you are alone in your bed, all duvet types are possible. But, if you share your bed, you have to choose a duvet with a baffled box construction, so that down and feathers are evenly distributed in small sewed boxes. So, all the feathers are not accumulated in only one place. That prevents one person to be very hot while the other is very cold.
Thread count
The number of threads per square inch is one of the most important criteria. Some people consider it as the most important, because it defines the duvet quality. It is the second criteria, after down, that defines the duvet quality. Actually, the more threads per square inch there are, the better the cloth quality is. So, the tighter the cloth is, the less down or feathers can move thus, the duvets do not loose their feathers. And that is one of the major problems of bad quality duvets. So, we recommend not buying a duvet with less than 100 threads per square inch.
We noticed on the internet that some brands dare offering duvet with 90 threads per inch. We warn you that when there is less than 100 threads per square inch, feathers will slip out from the sewings, and you may be compel to do your housecleaning very often. Finally, the more threads per square inch there are, the more resistant to dust mite the duvet is.
Some duvets that have more than 300 threads per square inch can be sold up to 800 euros.
It is indeed important, when choosing your duvet, to take into account the movement, size, weight and price. There is no such thing as good or bad duvet; however there is one duvet suitable for each person.
