Duvets filled with ordinary fibers are always cheap; you can find them in the market for less than 50 dollars. Several inconvenients are carried with these duvets. They are allergenic (dust, acarus, mushroom and bacteria) and its insulating capacity is low. Some of these comforters even store electrostatic charge, caused by friction during the night.
Hollow fibers have the same characteristics than the ordinary ones, but their structures allow them to insulate better. They are able to retain air inside them. And then, insulating properties are a mix between the polymer and the air.
Added silicon makes fibers to be slippery. The main purpose of adding silicon is to imitate the bulky effect of feather and down. Fibers never stay in the same place because they slide all away the duvet. (For example: Microfiber gel). These duvets are conceived for good insulating properties, but sometimes they trap so much air that they become too hot.
